Consider First, Then Grow

Build the company you want, the life you want. After all, you own one and are in charge of the other.

Growth can be the outcome of business done well, but should not be the goal. Focus on running a well-managed business and good things will follow.

If contemplating growth, consider the following:

  1. Compromises and flexibility will be required, and may put certain company assets/personnel/services in conflict.

  2. Significant and/or rapid growth does not come without large demands on personal time, and lots of capital.

  3. As more demands are presented, others will need to be hired/trained/trusted to manage the business operations.

  4. Don’t try to go it alone; the benefits/time savings/mistakes eliminated by building a team of “growth experts” will more than offset the related cost.
